I'm just curious when you are able to begin PvP activites with a RP character?

From what I can tell you have to speak with Sir Tydus and join the academy first... can someone please verify this?

TIA

p.s. I have been having a blast playing in the PvE sections of the world and am only L-7 W/Mo so I dont wanna leave too early to join the academy!

Again if done all mission from sir tydus guy and it might even be a level thing ie around lvl 5 - he says about academy and a mission, (must admit at this point i wasnt sure what the hell was going on) you then get this timer waiting to into a scenario with other players in a random grp - have a fight and then searing thing gets explained and then find yourself in Old Ascalon whcih has a gladiator arena - which is random grp in a small arena to do pvp for fame and stuff - good fun.

To add also - yes u leave a part of ascalon behind as i found out - ie had quest items to hand in that the quest givers are not around anymore - but loads more pve stuff to do.

If played other games think of where u are now as EQ2 - isle of refuge? ie training getting to know game area.

Hows this for a "Newb" question...

Do I need WoW to play GW? I never thought so but when I tok a trip to amazon.co.uk to buy GW I was offered a deal on a GW/WoW package.

I used the search function for queries and came up with 500 threads and I didn't want to read through this full thread to check if it was here as this can be answered straight away.

Thanks in advance

GW and WoW have nothing to do with each other whatsoever, what you saw on amazon is something called "marketing"

i don't mean to be rude, but he was simply pointing out something that should have been obvious to begin with. WoW has been around a few months longer than GW has, plus the fact that the games are made by different companies...

But things are so much simpler when I can get first hand clarification. The games must be similar (or else people wouldn't be making comparisons) so to put my mind at rest I asked a simple enough question. I asked for help and I got it with added sarcasm. I never checked the companies although maybe I should have and wouldn't have to ask a difficult to handle question ... it would be different if I was asking if GTA San Andreas was an add on for Metal Gear Solid 3 :P lol

I have another question which I apologise in advance if its another dumb one (see my name hehe) but is it like RuneScape which I tried once and didn't go back to because my connection kept on being lost due to either

A) My computer (1.70GHz processor, 128MB of RAM, 40GB Hard disk)
B) My Internet connection (589.8Kbps, Broadband)

Okay, so I've played quite a few MMORPG's and none have 'sucked' me in too much. I'm currently playing World Of Warcraft and have previously played Final Fantasy XI and Lineage II. World Of Warcraft is obviously the most popular MMORPG at the time being, but I still don't get the rush from it that I got with The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time (for example). With all that being said, here are my questions...and if possible please try to answer my questions in comparison to the games I have listed above. (If you've played them)

1. The biggest turnoff I'm having about Guild Wars is the fact that almost every zone in the game is 'instanced'. Is this really a setback, or a blessing in disguise?

2. Leveling system...how does it work? From what I understand the maximum level is 20...? Does it take a long time to level up? Could I perhaps catch up to my cousin who's been playing this game since it released?

3. Clothing/armor. One great thing about World Of Warcraft is how much you could customize your character with different outfits and whatnot. Appearance is by far my most favored thing in any RPG (well, physical customization), how is this supported in Guild Wars? I know you can edit face, skin tone, etc etc, but what about different clothes?

4. Primary/Secondary classes. In Final Fantasy XI you could have your primary class which you got the most out of (ability/stats-wise), and your secondary class which added in some of it's traits to form some wicked combination...but, some combinations were pointless. For instance, a Ninja(Roguish) / White Mage (healer) would be a stupid choice. So, in Guild Wars can you just choose what you like and still remain a half decent character?

5. Guilds. Guilds obviously has to be the main point of this game. Somewhere in my reading I noticed a 'guild hall', is this housing for your guild? I love having a house for my character in any/every game I play, sadly World Of Warcraft didn't offer that and Final Fantasy XI did offer it, but your house was 'instanced', so only -you- could enter it.

6. More questions on the way ^_^

I hope my questions made sense, if not I can always rephrase them.
Thanks in advance to any advice/answers

1. They are called districts and it basically stops ur screen from freezing up altogether with mass players in one area like it does in WoW..... where you fancy some pvp make your way down to TM 20 seconds freeze and your dead. Of course this is also useful in other circumstances in GW where you go to the arena to do some pvp and there is a group in the 1-10 arena that think they are awesome with 2 level 11's and 2 level 10's beating on level 6 and 7's for some kind of ego trip..... sorry lol just irritated me mildy yesterday.

2. Really fast i had game 2 days and i'm level 10 took bout 10 hours i think but then my friends were helping me who have played since release so not sure if this is the case. But levelling isn't really the issue from what i have experienced (in my small amount) but finding the new skills and spells for your professions is.

3. In WoW i don't think anyone was unique in their armour at all. Everyone hit 60 then everyone wanted the best items you could get and therefore evry single player of the same class was wearing the same armour ie. Shadowcraft, Devout...etc the class set armour. The classes seem really cool i picked a monk/necro kinda mix like dark magic with light magic... i think you could probably mix and 2 professions and get huuuge benefits from both it seems really well worked. And you can customise your clothes any way you want with dyes. So you can have any colour you want.

4.....

5. Don't know but i think you need a guild hall to participate in the ummmm... like ultimate pvp arena thing forgot its name, or to declare hostility on another guild.

6. Sorry for going on but i'm at work bored and this is the first forum i have been able to post on due to company fire walls -.- . I just know i'm gonna try to post this now after spending 10 mins typing and its going to be blocked. :P

1. There are districts which seperates the players up a bit while in town, but with less the 100 people in the same place you can actually accomplish things due to the lack of lag, when you leave a town your party gets its own version of it, this prevents looting and Kill Stealing, but it also reduces the MMO part a bit.

2.I've heard that you can reach the level cap in a weekend of hard playing, and that is true in my experiance (although I have never done it that fast) so you can easily catch up with people that have been playing since the game was released.

3.You get to choose how your character looks when you make him, and you can get dyes to change the colour of your armour, (which there are several types of for each class).

4.When you choose your primary class, that determings what armour you can use, and it also give you access to the primary attribute that you don't have if you choose it as secondary, and when you choose your secondary class you get access to all it's skills and attributes (other then the primary).

5.Guild Halls are a place for your guild to meet up, and are where Guild V. Guild battles take place.
